Ultrasonic diffuser: all you need to know

The ultrasonic diffuser also called ultrasonic is part of the most widespread and popular range on the market. Indeed, it is not surprising, it is the most economical model, the quietest and the one that offers the widest range of products. In addition, they are very pretty and emit a fine mist which induces a very nice and soothing visual aspect that creates a Zen and relaxed atmosphere.

Operation of the ultrasonic diffuser

The ultrasonic essential oil diffuser distributes the healing essential oils in the air as negative ions. To operate, the tank must be supplied with water and oils.
This diffuser uses a process of ultrasonic vibrations (very high frequencies ranging from 16 to 20 megahertz) to break down the essential oils into microparticles. Then, the water and the oil are transformed into mist, and the diffusion of this mist allows the oil to disperse as a very fine mist in the air.

Unlike a nebulizer, this process does not make much noise, allowing the diffuser to operate very quietly - ideal for relaxing, sleeping and working while enjoying the benefits of aromatherapy.

The ultrasound diffusion process is adiabatic. This means that just like a mister, the oil changes state without the use of heat. Thus, its cold diffusion does not deteriorate the aromatic and therapeutic properties of essential oils. They therefore retain their energetic values during diffusion.

Advantages of the ultrasonic diffuser

Purifies and cleanses the air.  Aroma diffusers help to purify and sanitize the air. In addition, essential oils added to a diffuser increase the purifying effect and can help kill bacteria and fungi present in the air. 

Reduces dust in the air.  Ultrasonic diffusers have an ionizing effect. Air quality is improved because more negative ions are released into the air. These negative ions attach themselves to the positive ions, causing the dust to fall to the ground (so that it no longer pollutes the air). At the seaside and in high mountains, many negative ions are naturally present.

Diffuses a pleasant fragrance quickly into a room.  This type of diffuser divides the essential oil and water into millions of micro-droplets, creating a nice mist that spreads quickly through a room. It will only take a few minutes for a room in your home or office to be perfumed with a powerful olfactory aroma and intoxicated with essential oils. Since perfume has a significant impact on the way we feel, it is essential that the environment in which we live has a pleasant scent. By diffusing essential oils, odour nuisances can be eliminated and a nourishing atmosphere can be created.

How to maintain and clean your ultrasonic essential oil diffuser?

WARNING:
ALWAYS TURN OFF THE UNIT AND UNPLUG THE POWER SOURCE (ELECTRICAL OUTLET) BEFORE CLEANING.

• Every week, empty the water tank. Wipe it with a soft, damp cloth.
• If necessary, use a cotton swab to wipe the ultrasonic transducer at the bottom of the water tank with white vinegar and rinse with water (NOTE: do not clean the diffuser with alcohol as this will attack the edges of the tank).
• After 15 to 20 days of use, if the unit does not diffuse mist, clean the transducer as described in the previous step or check the filter if it is equipped with one.
• Clean the unit after a long period of storage. Store in a dry place.

How to use its ultrasonic essential oil diffuser?

• Never use it without water. Turn off the unit when the tank is empty, if it does not have an automatic shut-off.
• Never fill the tank directly at the water tap. Use a cup or the measuring glass if included and do not pour water into the air outlet; this could damage the unit.
• If the maximum water guideline is exceeded, pour the excess water through the water outlet.
• Securely attach the top cover to the diffuser.
• For aromatherapy, you can add 5 to 10 drops of essential oil directly into the water. We generally recommend 2 to 3 drops of essential oil per 100 ml of water. (Never add oil directly into the tank without water).

Points to check when choosing your ultrasonic diffuser

Now you certainly know a lot more about this type of diffuser, its technology and how to use it. It's time to know what points to check when choosing your ultrasonic essential oil diffuser so that you won't be disappointed with your purchase.

Aromatherapy. If you wish to diffuse for purely therapeutic purposes, the ultrasound diffuser is suitable. As we saw earlier, cold diffusion does not deteriorate the properties of essential oils. However, do not forget that it remains less powerful than a nebulized diffuser that diffuses pure essential oils. Take this into account when making your choice.

Diffuse a home fragrance. The diffusion by ultrasound is quite adapted if you wish to diffuse a room fragrance of essential oils and create an atmosphere ensuring you an olfactory well being. In addition, the odor given off by ultrasound is much less strong than that of nebulizers. This can be disturbing for some people.

Diffusion surface. The diffusion surface can be up to 30 m² on the floor and it is considered that a room can be saturated with aromatic scent in less than 15 minutes. Note however that the olfactory power will depend on two important factors: the load of essential oils and whether the room is open or closed.

Air humidifier. The humidifier function can be a huge benefit to health and to people with respiratory problems. It is usually recommended to maintain a humidity level between 40 and 60% in a home, so it is not advisable to use this type of diffuser in a relatively humid room in order to avoid the proliferation of fungi.

Functionality. An important point to check. In fact, not all diffusers are the same and some are very well equipped while others have no functionality. They are all very quiet and very easy to use, but remember to check if you want a remote control, an automatic timer, a large capacity tank or 2 diffusion modes: continuous and intermittent.
